Kalbajar (Azerbaijani: Kəlbəcər, also spelled as Kelbajar, Kälbäjär, Kelbadzhar, Kelbadshar, Kelbadjar, Kelbadžar) (Urdu: کلبجر) is the administrative center of Kalbajar Rayon of Azerbaijan.
The city along with the associated rayon is under the control of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic after it was captured by Armenian forces during the Battle of Kalbajar, near the end of the Nagorno-Karabakh War.
Geography:
Kalbajar is located in the Tartar River Valley, 458 km away from the city of Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan.

Population:
As
per the 2008 Census the population of Kalbajar was only 500. It is
because as a result of Armenian occupation of the city, 8,900 people of
the city were internally displaced who are now settled in other
settlements of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Armenian Occupation:
Being in the zone occupied by Armenian armed forces in Kalbajar mosques were destroyed, and an extensive library of 900 m ² area, the ethnographical museum and all the material and spiritual wealth of the rich history of Kalbajar were plundered and shipped to Armenia by Armenians.
After the occupation of Kalbajar, the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution No. 822. The resolution required withdrawal of all occupying forces from Kalbajar and other occupied regions. However, so far from the decision, any obligation has not been fulfilled.
In addition, contrary to the principles of the UN and the OSCE since 1999, the Armenians started their artificial settlement in Kalbajar.
